Working with LLMs is depressing
There has always been some amount of fluff and bullshit at work. LLMs accelerate that to a huge degree. The problem is simple; I know people who are not especially talented, but lean on an LLM, and no one around them seems to notice that they're not talented.
To keep up with everyone else, I use an LLM and feel like a fraud myself. I can't take pride in work I didn't do, even if I was able achieve a useful result.
I'm confused about how much this should bother me. People have always been rated unfairly. I also find myself equal parts disgusted but also caught up in the race for status at work. Intellectually I think so, so little of the status jockeying at work. But emotionally, I can't escape it myself. It's a pitiful problem that I don't know how to walk away from.
LLMs take this issue and enervate it; everyone else is less fairly judged. I am less deserving of whatever praise I receive. Status jockeying, which has always been a disorganized mess, has devolved into a silly mosh pit where nothing makes sense and everyone is shuffling constantly.
